I love great songs that embody the perfect combination of lyrics and a strong melody. I have a huge record/CD collection and so with this blog would like to share with you some fantastic songs that are largely unknown, from great albums that never made it to one of Rolling Stone’s “greatest” lists. As you’ll soon see, I have a penchant for songs from 1970s; but even if you’re not into oldies so much, I do hope you’ll give these songs a chance. Happy listening!

1/1 Fleetwood Mac - Dust
Released in 1972, Bare Trees was Fleetwood Mac's last album before Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined the group, and it is their best. Here Christine McVie's songwriting has never been better ("Spare Me a Little of Your Love"), and Bob Welch's earliest and superior version of "Sentimental Lady" proves irresistible. Yet it is the writing and playing of the incomparable guitarist, Danny Kirwan, that stands out, especially this song, Dust (alternate version), which is a mournfully sweet tune put to one of World War 1 poet Rupert Brooke's best poems. After this album, Kirwan's increasingly erratic behavior caused him to be ousted from the group, leaving a huge vacuum since he had written half of Bare Trees. Welch left too, opening the door to Buckingham and Nicks. Kirwan has since faded into relative obscurity, although there is hope among some early Mac fans that he'll join in a reunion concert with other early member.
